In sports, a slot is a player who lines up on the inside of the receivers and is normally used in combination with the running back or another wide receiver. They often act as the ball carrier on pitch plays, reverses, and end-arounds, and must be quick to get to the hole in order to be effective. Slot receivers must also be able to block effectively, as they often line up directly against the linebackers and secondary.

The best slot receivers have a unique skill set that allows them to excel at many different things. They must be able to run all the routes, be precise with their timing, and have great chemistry with the quarterback. They normally don’t look like your typical wide receiver, as they are generally shorter and stockier. Some of the greatest slot receivers of all time include Wayne Chrebet, Wes Welker, and Charlie Joiner.

In computers, a slot (also known as an expansion slot or expansion port) is a location in which a circuit board that adds new capabilities to the main computer system is inserted. Most modern motherboards have several slots for adding various types of hardware, such as a video card, sound card, or hard disk drive.
